Job description

Overview

Big Data Systems Engineer (Remote) at KBR, Inc. This role supports the Test Resource Management Center's (TRMC) Big Data (BD) and Knowledge Management (KM) Team deploying BD and KM systems for DoD testing ranges and various acquisition programs. The successful candidate will be part of a team delivering CHEETAS (Cloud Hybrid Edge-to-Enterprise Evaluation Test & Analysis Suite) deployments at multiple DoD ranges and labs.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and integrate CHEETAS in customer environments, serving as the frontline interface for initial CHEETAS experiences within DoD ranges and labs.
  • Collaborate with system administrators and software developers to communicate, document, and resolve deployment issues.
  • Deploy CHEETAS across disparate DoD testing ranges and acquisition program environments, including non-standard hardware stacks and integration into existing ecosystems, sometimes in DoD vaults with no internet connectivity.
  • Work on the deployment and integration of CHEETAS at multiple DoD ranges and labs, ensuring proper operation and support.

Work Environment

  • Location : Remote (option to work from a KBR facility) with a stable internet connection.
  • Travel : Approximately 25% with surges up to 50% to support end users at DoD ranges and labs across the US (including Alaska and Hawaii).

  • Basic Qualifications / Knowledge

  • Active TS / SCI Security Clearance required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or related) and 10 years of DoD experience; entry-level Big Data Engineers will NOT be considered.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with integration and configuration of SQL Server Big Data Cluster, CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat, Windows Server, VMWare, etc.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in big data environments.
  • Experience deploying and configuring Big Data and Knowledge Management tools in an enterprise environment; strong troubleshooting of big data ecosystems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; comfortable assisting customers with installation and configuration of big data infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to become CHEETAS deployment SME.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and teams; strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with installation, configuration, integration, and usage of NFS, SMB, S3, SQL Server, Windows Server, Windows 10 / 11, Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat).
  • Willingness to learn new business processes or CHEETAS nuances every Agile sprint (~every 6 weeks) prior to deployment.
  • Problem-solving, debugging, and time-management skills under pressure; ability to communicate technical topics to both experts and non-experts.
  • Ability to work independently and provide recommendations for design, analysis, and development.
  • Ability to present findings to large groups and document repeatable procedures.
  • Travel requirement details : 25% with surges up to 50% to support end users at DoD ranges and labs nationwide.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in government / defense labs and computing restrictions.
  • Experience with major DoD acquisition programs.
  • Knowledge of TENA, JMETC, and distributed testing / training.
  • Experience working in distributed team environments.
  • Ability to mentor engineers of varying skill levels.
  • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity policies.
  • Compensation

  • Basic Compensation : Denver, CO area $142,400 - $180,000; Los Angeles, CA area $148,900 - $200,000; Washington, DC area $148,900 - $200,000. The offered rate will be based on location, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, clearance level, contract affordability, and internal parity.
