Pay Range : $37,440 - $60,000 / year (DOE)

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Steel Shop Drawing Checker with deep expertise in structural steel and miscellaneous metal detailing. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing and marking up shop and erection drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and strict compliance with industry standards (AISC, AWS, AWWA, API) and project-specific contract documents.
This position is ideal for someone with strong AutoCAD skills, a solid grasp of steel fabrication processes, and the ability to manage a high volume of detailed review work.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and mark up shop and erection drawings for :
Drafting accuracy
Industry code complianceAdherence to contract drawings / specsInterpret and verify contract plans and structural documentsCheck all dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, material specs, and assembly instructionsCollaborate with engineering, CAD, and detailing teams to provide clear and constructive feedbackMaintain and update drawing archives and standard detail librariesPrevent recurrence of drafting errors by updating company standardsManage review of up to 40 drawings per day across 7-8 simultaneous projectsRequired Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in structural steel or miscellaneous metal detailing and checkingProven track record of reviewing and redlining other drafters' drawingsExpert-level proficiency with AutoCADDeep understanding of structural steel fabrication, erection, welding processes, and weld calloutsAbility to interpret and cross-check contract drawings, shop drawings, and erection plansStrong attention to detail in high-volume environmentsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsPreferred Qualifications
Experience using Adobe Acrobat for markups and drawing reviewsCandidates with slightly less than 5 years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate advanced skills and technical knowledgeSchedule & Work Environment
