The Louisiana Department of Education is committed to ensuring every child, from birth through grade 12, receives a high-quality education that prepares them for lifelong success. The Division of Diverse Learners leads statewide efforts to support students with disabilities through inclusive, evidence-based instructional practices. We are seeking an Education Consultant Supervisor to serve as the Director of Instruction and Intervention Strategy. This role leads implementation of the Louisiana Special Education Playbook, focusing on access to strong core instruction, targeted interventions, and skilled, content-strong educators. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with expertise in curriculum design, intervention systems, and educator development. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence statewide systems, support district implementation of the Playbook, and improve academic and behavioral outcomes for Louisiana's diverse learners.

The Office of Teaching & Learning - Diverse Learners is looking for someone with the following qualities and skillset :

  • Demonstrated success leading district- or state-level initiatives aligned with the Louisiana Special Education Playbook, emphasizing access to high-quality core instruction, targeted interventions, and content-strong educators.
  • Deep expertise in special education law and practiceincluding IDEA and Bulletin 1508and how these guide instructional delivery, interventions, and compliance.
  • Proven ability to design and implement instructional frameworks, interventions, and professional learning that improve outcomes for students with mild, moderate, and severe disabilities.
  • Skilled in data-driven decision-making to monitor and strengthen systems of academic and behavioral support for diverse learners.
  • Exceptional collaboration, communication, and leadership skills to coordinate across state offices, districts, and national partners, advancing Louisiana's vision for diverse learners.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Nine years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
  • Six years of full-time work experience plus six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
  • A bachelor's degree plus six years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services; OR
  • An advanced degree plus five years of experience in education, teaching, or administrative services.

    Job Duties :

  • Lead statewide implementation of the Louisiana Special Education Playbook, ensuring all school systems have access to high-quality core instruction, targeted interventions, and content-strong educators for students with disabilities.
  • Supervise and support a team of Education Program Consultants responsible for designing and delivering academic and behavioral supports, professional learning, and technical assistance to districts.
  • Collaborate across LDOE offices and divisions to align curriculum, standards, assessments, and instructional materials with the needs of diverse learners, ensuring coherence and consistency statewide.
  • Develop and manage professional development initiatives such as the SPED Fellows Academy and other leadership programs that build capacity for special education and intervention leadership across Louisiana.
  • Use data to guide decision-making, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and identify trends or areas for improvement in student outcomes.
  • Provide direct support and technical assistance to district and school leaders, helping systems strengthen governance structures, instructional delivery, and intervention implementation.
  • Stay current on research and best practices related to special education, curriculum design, and intervention strategy to inform statewide policies and resources.
  • Represent the Division of Diverse Learners on committees, advisory councils, and working groups to advance policies and programs supporting Louisiana's diverse learners.
  • Position-Specific Details :

    Appointment Type : Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. The person hired for this position is expected to regularly report to the Baton Rouge office. Current permanent classified state employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment, if selected. Career Progression : This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group. Work Schedule : Work days are Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined. Compensation : The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

    Note regarding the advertised pay range : The Education Consultant series have a special entrance rate that is above the minimum hire rate for these positions. The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make over their career and not the maximum amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
