Fleet Manager

Summary / Primary Role :

This role will be an experienced and detail-oriented person to oversee the acquisition, operation, maintenance, and performance of our company's vehicle fleet. The Fleet Manager will be responsible for ensuring that vehicles are safe, cost-efficient, compliant with all regulations, and aligned with the organization's short- and long-term goals. This role requires a balance of operational expertise, financial management, and people leadership.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities :

Vehicle Acquisition & Management

  • Analyze company needs to determine the appropriate type, size, and mix of vehicles.
  • Manage the purchase or lease of vehicles, securing the best possible terms and pricing.
  • Evaluate future fleet needs to ensure scalability and efficiency.

Fuel & Maintenance Oversight

  • Develop strategies to manage and reduce fuel consumption, including fuel card programs and vendor negotiations.
  • Design and enforce preventative maintenance programs to extend vehicle life, reduce costs, and ensure safety.
  • Driver Management & Training

  • Hire, train, and onboard new drivers, setting clear qualification standards and expectations.
  • Develop and implement driver safety, compliance, and training programs.
  • Monitor driver performance to identify unsafe behaviors and improve efficiency.
  • Safety, Compliance & Policies

  • Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, CVSA, IFTA, and all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records including DVIRs, ELD data, maintenance logs, trip reports, and payroll records.
  • Establish and enforce company fleet policies covering safety, vehicle use, inspections, and accident procedures.
  • Data & Telematics

  • Utilize telematics and fleet management systems to monitor fuel usage, vehicle performance, and driver behavior.
  • Analyze data to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize routing and utilization.
  • Financial & Cost Control

  • Manage and forecast fleet-related expenses, including vehicle payments, insurance, depreciation, licensing, maintenance, fuel, and unexpected costs.
  • Develop cost-control measures to maximize ROI on fleet assets.
  • Oversee remarketing, repurposing, or disposal of older vehicles to recover value or reduce costs.
  • Strategic Planning & Leadership

  • Serve as the communication link between drivers, operations staff, and upper management.
  • Provide regular reports on fleet activities, performance, and costs.
  • Develop long-term fleet strategies to support business growth, sustainability, and efficiency goals.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in fleet management, transportation, logistics, or a related role.
  • Experience managing medium to large fleets across multiple vehicle classes (e.g., vans, trucks, specialty vehicles).
  • Proficiency with fleet management software, telematics systems, and GPS tracking technology.
  • Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, CVSA, and IFTA regulations.
  • Knowledge of vehicle acquisition processes (lease vs. purchase), maintenance scheduling, and lifecycle management.
  • Ability to analyze fleet data and prepare detailed reports on performance, costs, and compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and train drivers and fleet personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with executives, drivers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to balance short-term operational needs with long-term strategic planning.
  • Supervisory Responsibility :

    This position does have supervisory responsibility.

    Expected Hours of Work :

    An Employee is expected to work a minimum of forty (40) hours per week. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization. The salary range and / or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee's base salary and / or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Brightcore also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to complement the base salary. The base annual salary range for this position is $125,000-$150,000 and is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

    Travel Requirements :

  • Travel required to different job sites within the Northeast with occasional East Coast job sites.
