LAW ENFORCEMENT INVESTIGATOR II (SWORN ARSON DETECTIVE) – Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations, Criminal Investigations Division, Department of Financial Services. Location : West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County. This is an open competitive employment opportunity.

The Criminal Investigations Division encompasses all law enforcement and forensic components residing within the Department of Financial Services.
Responsibilities
- Conduct extensive investigations, including following up on leads, conducting interviews, executing search warrants, and making arrests.
- Perform follow-up latent investigations, interview witnesses, and interrogate suspects to secure background information on suspects.
- Identify and arrest criminal suspects; prepare and present information and evidence to the prosecuting attorney; provide expert testimony at legal proceedings and assist in preparing witnesses, victims, and evidence for prosecution.
- Identify, recruit, document, and supervise confidential sources in accordance with Division Policies and Procedures.
- Collect, seize, protect, maintain, transport, and document evidence in compliance with statutes, current case law, and Division Policies and Procedures.
- Demonstrate sound surveillance techniques and undercover capabilities as needed.
- Provide investigative support to Division personnel and to other public safety entities.
- Apply diverse knowledge and research methods; develop strategic and tactical intelligence; monitor arrests, prosecutions, and forfeitures; maintain liaison with prosecutors.
- Conduct thorough background investigations on potential Department employees; establish and maintain liaison with other entities.
- Perform disaster-related duties as requested as a member of the Disaster Response Team.
- Participate in state and federal task forces, community outreach, and honor guard programs as applicable.
Qualifications
Required :
High School Diploma or equivalent.ACTIVE Florida Law Enforcement Compliance / Certification of Equivalency of Training from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.VALID Driver's License from the Department of Motor Vehicles.Three (3) or more years of sworn law enforcement experience (for Law Enforcement Investigator II).Preferences :
A degree from an accredited college or university.Special consideration may be given to bilingual verbal and written skills meeting a critical agency need.Notes :
Correctional Officer and Correction Probational Officer certifications do not meet the job requirements.College education substitution : 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for up to one year of required experience.Candidates with less than three years of sworn experience may be considered for Law Enforcement Investigator I, depending on agency needs.Must live within 50 miles of assigned duty station; distance is geodesic (direct line).Salary and Benefits

Selection is a multi-stage process requiring passing the Physical Abilities Test, Oral and Written Exams, and CJSTC background prior to proceeding. Responses to qualifying questions must be clearly supported by the state application.
