Position Summary :

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Category Buyer to join our procurement team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing product categories, conducting market research, sourcing suppliers, negotiating terms, and ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement. This is a full-time, on-site position based in South Plainfield, NJ. Category Buyer reports to Head of Category Management.

On Site : South Plainfield, NJ

Key Responsibilities :

  • Analyze assigned product categories to identify demand trends, pricing structures, and procurement opportunities.
  • Manage purchase orders, ensuring product availability while maintaining inventory targets.
  • Source new products and suppliers aligned with company goals and market demands.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors to maximize value and efficiency.
  • Monitor vendor performance to ensure quality, delivery, and service standards are met.
  • Collaborate with sales, operations, and inventory teams to align procurement activities with business needs.
  • Stay current on market trends, pricing shifts, and specialty food industry developments.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and other important data.
  • Participate in KPI goal setting and performance tracking to drive purchasing effectiveness.

Qualifications :

  • 1+ years of experience in purchasing, category management, or supply chain, preferably in the food or wholesale distribution industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and trends.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and purchasing / inventory software systems.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple categories effectively.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
  • Russian is preferred but not mandatory
