Job Description
This position as a Sediment and Stormwater Management Engineer is crucial for performing
technical reviews of sediment and stormwater management plans for housing developments,
single-family homes, and commercial buildings. Your daily contact with the public, engineers,
contractors, and agency personnel will rely on your expertise. This position is located at 23818
Shortly Road, Georgetown
Duties and Performance Requirements
Performs technical reviews of the engineering aspects of sediment and stormwater
management plans for housing developments, single-family homes, and commercial
buildings for compliance with the Sussex Conservation District’s Sediment and
Stormwater Management Program Title 7, Chapter 40 of the Delaware Code. During the
review, determine and recommend conditions for receiving approval.
Our Sediment and Stormwater Engineer actively develops and implements plans to
incorporate program policies and procedures. They also play a crucial role in
recommending revisions of existing programs and implementing new aspects of the
sediment and stormwater management program.
Your role also extends to aiding the Sussex County Planning and Zoning office and
towns in managing sediment and stormwater management programs where they exist,
significantly impacting the local community.
Responds to inquiries from contractors, engineers, consultants, other state and local
agencies, and the public regarding the procedures, requirements, and specifications of
established sediment and stormwater management measures. This includes explaining
principles and making competent engineering recommendations to other engineers
regarding sediment and stormwater management.
Our Sediment and Stormwater Engineer is responsible for maintaining records and files
with a strong emphasis on documentation. This meticulous approach ensures that all
necessary information is readily available and up to date.
Aids and coordination with other agencies, levels of government, and the public
regarding sediment and stormwater management.
Performs, as needed, on-site inspections of construction sites, reviewing sediment and
stormwater management practices to ensure that all measures are conducted in
accordance with approved plans and specifications. This is done in coordination with
other Sussex Conservation District Sediment and Stormwater staff.
Consult with the contractor, builder, and engineer concerning construction planning,
execution, and problems.
Submits periodic and special reports.
Meeting with the public out in the field to solve neighborly disputes, address public
education, and tackle conservation problems will keep you engaged and challenged in
your role.
Attend preconstruction meetings to discuss concerns.
Aid and coordination with other agencies, levels of government, and the public regarding
sediment and stormwater management.
Provide educational and technical services, including conducting education or training
activities concerning the sediment and stormwater management program.
Perform other related duties as requested by the Program Manager of the Sediment and
Stormwater Management Program and the District Coordinator.
Supervision
The incumbent of this position is under the direct supervision of the Sediment and Stormwater
Management Program's program manager.
