Job Title : Army Field Grade Officer Subject Matter Expert

Position Overview
The Army Field Grade Officer Subject Matter Expert (SME) will support a behavioral science research initiative examining how Soldiers' Army and non-Army identities influence their decisions to remain in service or transition to related private-sector careers. The project employs a mixed-methods approach-integrating survey research and qualitative interviews-to develop a comprehensive understanding of Soldiers' identities, career perspectives, and their impact on satisfaction and retention within the Army.
The SME will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of behavioral scientists and military experts to ensure research instruments, analyses, and recommendations are accurate, relevant, and applicable to the Army's professional development and retention strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Research Support and Instrument Review : Review, refine, and provide recommendations for survey and interview items to ensure clarity, comprehension, and relevance across the five critical career fields : Cyber, Aviation, Health Services, Logistics, and Judge Advocate General (JAG) .
- Subject Matter Expertise : Provide insight on Army culture, officer career progression, and talent management systems, particularly as they relate to mid-career (field grade) officer development and retention.
- Data Interpretation and Analysis : Collaborate with behavioral science researchers to interpret quantitative and qualitative findings, identifying factors that positively or negatively influence Army identity, job satisfaction, and retention outcomes.
- Strategic Advising : Advise on professional development pathways, career progression models, and retention initiatives. Support the team in developing actionable, evidence-based recommendations for Army leadership and personnel policy.
- Team Collaboration : Work closely with a diverse research team to integrate military operational knowledge with behavioral science methodologies. Communicate findings and implications clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Former U.S. Army Active Component (AC) officer (O5–O6) with honorable discharge or retirement in 2017 or later .Experience in one or more of the five critical Army career fields : Cyber, Aviation, Health Services, Logistics, or JAG .Demonstrated understanding of Army officer career paths, professional development processes, and talent management systems.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams.Strong analytical and advisory skills, with the ability to connect research findings to actionable personnel policies.Preferred Qualifications
Prior assignments or familiarity with :Human Resources Command (HRC)Army Recruiting Command or Recruiting / Accessions CommandOfficer assignment, development, or retention policy workExperience supporting Army or DoD research, analysis, or policy development initiatives.Advanced degree in behavioral science, organizational leadership, human resources, or a related discipline (preferred but not required).Additional Details
