Structural Project Engineer
As a Structural Project Engineer specializing in wood frame and mass timber buildings, your primary responsibility will be to lead a growing team of engineers and designers working on residential, commercial, and industrial structures primarily constructed of wood, timber, or mass timber framing. You will collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering professionals to ensure the safe and efficient performance of these structures while adhering to relevant building codes and industry standards. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions for our clients.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct structural analysis and design calculations for wood frame and mass timber building projects, with emphasis on higher education, hospitality, multi-family housing, and entertainment venues.
- Review and develop timber connection details that meet structural demands, are cost effective, and are visually appealing.
- Develop structural plans, specifications, and construction documents for wood frame and mass timber building projects.
- Perform full structural designs on projects of varying size and scope in a variety of materials including wood, timber, mass timber, reinforced concrete, masonry, and steel.
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, developers, and other project stakeholders to develop cost-effective and efficient structural solutions.
- Oversee team of designers, engineers, and drafters to ensure projects are prepared on time and in accordance with code and client requirements.
- Conduct site visits and assessments to evaluate existing structures and provide recommendations for repair, rehabilitation, or retrofitting.
- Ensure the engineering and financial success of assigned projects.
- Meet schedule and budget-hour estimates as developed by own proposal preparation.
- Review shop drawings, construction documents, and material specifications to verify their adherence to design intent.
- Interact directly with external clients to develop relationships and work on projects secured by own proposals.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.
- Stay updated with industry trends, research, and advancements related to building design and construction.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Participate in continuing education webinars and education sessions and maintain required professional development hours for state license(s).
- Participate in networking and business development opportunities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
A bachelors degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, architectural engineering with structural emphasis, or a closely related field is required.Licensure as a professional engineer (PE / SE) required.4-6 years of proven experience in structural engineering, construction engineering, or related field. Specific experience related to wood frame buildings is a bonus.Strong knowledge of building codes, design standards, and material properties applicable to wood frame and mass timber construction.Proficient with Risa 3D or similar company-approved structural design and analysis software.Excellent budgeting and cost containment skills.Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and resolve design challenges.Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with clients, architects, and contractors.Sound understanding of construction processes, materials, and techniques of various structures.Detail-oriented approach with a focus on accuracy and precision in design calculations and documentation.Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software to maintain accurate project recordsLeadership Required
