Summer Groundskeeper
This is a seasonal position that is designed to provide routine support in the construction, maintenance, repair, and appearance of the landscaping / grounds for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). Work is initially reviewed closely, and close supervision is received when new work processes or procedures are introduced, however, employees are expected to perform with limited guidance after the work process is learned.
Operates hand tools and light equipment including a compact tractor with attachments to maintain landscaping.
Plants, maintains, and prunes trees, shrubs, and perennials.
Removes materials, debris, and objects from walkways, ramps, parking lots, etc.
Assists with the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
Performs assigned, non-complex, routine building maintenance and / or custodial duties.
Operates a radio to receive calls and dispatch messages.
Operates office equipment as needed.
Performs special projects related to the business unit, as assigned.
Uses situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.
Performs related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Must be currently enrolled in, or accepted to, a post-secondary educational program, such as college or trade school, or entering a basic training program for the United States Armed Services during the Summer or Fall.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Active listening, attention to detail, communication proficiency, customer / client focused, reliability, research skills, teamwork orientation.
Position demands include frequent speaking, both in person and by telephone. May require long periods of sitting, standing, or bending. Position requires the physical capability to operate and carry heavy tools / equipment up to 50 pounds without the assistance of a lifting device. Works overhead or in a bending / squatting position frequently.
Exposure to some undesirable or unpleasant environmental conditions. May have exposure to high temperatures, heights, dust, noise, and chemicals. Environment could be wet / damp. Physical environment is generally safe, but safety equipment or precautions must be followed in field conditions.
