Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, instruction, and motivation for swim team participants; attend swim meets and team functions; promote the swim team program within association guidelines; maintain a safe environment.
- Lead assigned age group structured practices during assigned times as allocated by the Director of Competitive Coaching.
- Track daily attendance as outlined by the Director of Competitive Aquatics.
- Maintain open communication with parents and promote an environment focused on swimmer development and fostering relationships within YMCA philosophy, rules, guidelines, and policies.
- Attend invitationals and swim meets as assigned by the Director of Competitive Swimming.
- Assist in swimming team social events and fundraising when assigned.
- Conduct warm-up sessions for competitive events and maintain a safe environment for swim team participants.
- Attend staff meetings and training courses as scheduled.
- Follows all YMCA policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and best practices, including emergency and safety procedures; completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Maintain an orderly environment and secure team equipment at the end of practices / meets; report damaged equipment.
- Adhere to all YMCA of Montclair policies and support the association's philanthropy efforts.
- The position is safety sensitive and may be subjected to random drug testing as scheduled.
- Assist in all assigned areas and complete projects and assignments as directed by supervisor.
- Attend Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
- Follow screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk; provide supervision and training related to abuse risk.
- Provide employees and volunteers with feedback regarding boundaries with consumers and ensure adherence to abuse risk policies and procedures.
- Respond to policy and procedure violations using the YMCA's disciplinary procedures and follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Communicate the Y's commitment to protecting members from abuse to all employees and volunteers.
Qualifications
Minimum age of 21.4 or more years' experience as a competitive swim team coach.Demonstrated proficiency of swim skills in accordance with YMCA standards; strong foundation in stroke mechanics and effective communication with swimmers and parents.Current Basic Life Support (CPR), AED & Basic First Aid certification with annual recertification.Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguarding and ARC Safety Training for Swim Coaches online certification, or STSC in-person if no Lifeguard certification is held.Must secure and maintain certifications as outlined by USA Swimming or YUSA requirements for deck passes (national coaching certifications, safety certifications, leadership training as required).Position requires working most weekends.Work Environment & Physical Demands
Ability to instruct, observe, and demonstrate proper stroke and competitive swimming techniques.Ability to lift and pull equipment up to 50 pounds; ability to lift a small to average-sized child; ability to stand for long periods.Must be in good physical condition to coach swimming.Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in varied conditions, and to concentrate in a loud environment.Benefits

Work Schedule
This position requires less than 15 hours per week. Specific days and times will be determined based on availability and departmental needs.
