POSITION SUMMARY :

Provide gymnastics instruction to participants of different ages and ensure that they thrive and are successful within the program. In addition, this position supports the work of the Berwick Area YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

1.   Monitor gymnastics activities of all participants, intervening to correct technique where necessary.

2.   Observe and spot participants as they perform on various apparatus.

3.   Create and maintain positive relationships with participants, aiming to encourage them in a positive attitude.

4.   Teach gymnastics skills.

5.   Maintain facility cleanliness, includes gymnasium, closets and equipment.

6.   Prepares and executes lesson plans for recreational classes.

7.   Attends meetings pertinent to his or her position.

8.   Complete student attendance, assessments, and timesheets on time.

9.   Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and or ability required.

• Ability to work with children of all ages.
• Able to communicate effectively with participants, parents, and other instructors.
• Be a team player, must work well with others.
• Show initiative as well as leadership skills.
• Ability to think creatively and with an open mind.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING :

1.   High school diploma or equivalent.

2.   1+ year experience working with children in a recreation and / or instructional setting.

3.   Willingness to complete USAG U100 Fundamentals of Gymnastics instruction course within 30 days of start date. Cost is $25 and is reimbursable after 90 days of employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

WORK SCHEDULE :

Work schedule will vary depending on needs of program. Work hours will primarily be during the late afternoon / early evening. Regular days off will include holidays that Berwick Area YMCA is closed. Incumbent must be able to work some weekends and after normal hours as necessary or required by programming and mutually agreed upon with supervisor.
