Job description

Position Summary

The Title VI Office is the primary office at the University responsible for ensuring compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and companion state and city laws governing discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, color and national origin (including shared ancestry and ethnic characteristics). The Title VI Office also assists, along with partners in the Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) and Office of Student Conduct (OSC) regarding hybrid matters brought under Title VII, Title IX and other federal, state and city antidiscrimination laws. The Title VI Investigator will be responsible for leading independent and unbiased investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and protected class discrimination and harassment in accordance with Title VI-related Policies. Collaborate and consult with the Office of General Counsel, Student Affairs, the Office of Student Conduct, the Provost’s Office, Human Resources, the Department of Campus Safety, and other University offices regarding matters related to the University’s aforementioned policies. Investigate and resolve complaints of discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct filed by and against students, employees, faculty, administrators, and third party vendors based on OEO / OSC protected characteristics, including but not limited to race, color, and national origin under the University’s Title VI-related Policies. Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations in response to complaints filed related to Title VI Provide detailed, unbiased reports that may inform judicial action or proceedings at the University. Create and participate in trainings to educate the University community on policy, laws and regulations, and reporting obligations

Qualifications

Required Education : Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education :

Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and / or other relevant advanced degree

Required Experience :

3+ years experience conducting investigations related to discrimination and / or harassment in a higher education setting or other related field.

Preferred Experience :

Experience working in a unionized environment. Experience working in a higher education environment or with higher education clients and student judicial matters.

Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough, impartial, and efficient investigations. Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information. Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving, interviewing, and investigation. Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including skill in writing concise, logical analytical reports to convey complex issues. Excellent critical thinking skills, including the demonstrated ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges while maintaining strict confidentiality and sensitivity. Ability to produce high quality work products with attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations. Excellent interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs. Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress. Ability to work collaboratively and professionally across multiple constituencies to resolve complaints in a neutral, sensitive manner.
