Special Education Teacher (SPED) Job Duties

Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to student needs

Adapt instructional methods and materials to accommodate various learning styles and abilities

Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and families to support student success

Provide direct instruction and classroom support to students with disabilities

Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and compliance with IEP goals

Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal setting and student evaluations

Federal and State Requirements

Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field

Active Virginia teaching certification in Special Education required

Strong understanding of IDEA and IEP processes

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Must pass fingerprinting and background checks as required by the district and state
