The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. The position is based in Warrenton and Manassas.

Responsibilities

Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.

Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

Decontaminate and update patient information as needed.

Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

Clearly explain the venipuncture process to patients in a courteous manner.

Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and / or butterfly needles.

Fully understand and follow all physician orders.

Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.

Package specimens for transport, ensuring they are stored at the required temperature.

Place samples in appropriate collection containers / tubes and accurately label them.

Follow protocols to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport.

Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attend annual department trainings.

Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

Essential Skills

Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

High School Diploma or GED.

2 years of experience in phlebotomy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

OBGYN experience is preferred.

IOP experience is a plus.

Pediatric healthcare experience is beneficial.

Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 : 30 pm. The role requires travel between Warrenton and Manassas for coverage. The position offers great health benefits upon permanent employment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00 / hr.
