About The Position

Certifications : BLS required; ACLS & NIH Stroke Education preferred

Must-Have : Ability to assist in emergency situations

Description :

Nurse patient ratios typically 1 : 6 or less on both days and nights.

1 : 8 rarely on nights depending on acuity and staffing.

Will also take swing bed patients.

Common diagnoses include pneumonia, rehab, UTI, general post-operative care, pain control, general medical, aspiration, fractures, dementia, and falls.

Rare pediatric cases, typically requiring IV fluids.

Knowledge of EPIC system preferred.

RNs may be required to titrate drips for a short period of time, but this is not common practice.

Commonly used drips include Cardizem, though most patients are transferred to larger facilities for more complex care.

Charge nurses do not typically take an assignment.

Charge nurses cover the emergency department or serve as additional nurses on the floor.

Charge nurses act as house supervisors and have an administrator on call.

There is one nurse aid / patient care tech on each 8-hour shift.

Duties include vitals, ambulation, activities of daily living, and rounding.

Respiratory therapy equipment is not available at this facility.

Patients may set up home CPAP devices.

Nurses administer breathing treatments and perform chest physiotherapy as needed.

Nurses must read and interpret their own strips; no monitor techs are available on this unit.

Staff members typically work every third weekend, and weekend needs are dependent on contractual agreements.

Holiday requirements follow a rotation system.

There is no call or standby requirement.

No floating requirements exist.

Any color or pattern of scrubs is acceptable; scrubs are not provided.
