Plumbing Helper
Under general supervision of designated supervisor, install, maintain, and repair heating and plumbing systems. Responsible for providing excellent customer service and producing the highest quality of work.
Job Duties :
- Assist plumbers when repairing and maintaining heating, plumbing, steam water and drainage systems
- Assist plumbers when repairing, installing and replacing plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water closets, showers, heaters, hot water tanks and other related plumbing fixtures.
- Use UNH electronic sources, including use of UNH Continuum and EcoStructure for troubleshooting and problem identification
- Assist plumbers when repairing and maintaining dining hall equipment, including, but not limited to, dishwashing machines, garbage disposals and steam kettles.
- Assist plumber when assembling and installing valves, pipe fittings and pipes
- Using appropriate equipment, clear, thaw, drain and unplug stopped or blocked plumbing systems.
- Correct openings in walls and floors in order to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings.
- Determine appropriate sizes, locations, tools and methods of solving plumbing and pipe fitting problems.
- Perform welding, brazing, cutting, threading, bending and other normal plumbing and pipe fitting techniques, using appropriate tools and methods.
- Assist plumber when analyzing, diagnosing, and repairing malfunctions of plumbing systems.
- Maintain electronic records and service reports of materials and time expended, including use of tablets and Integrated Work Management Software.
- Follow codes and recognized procedures, techniques and safety precautions in performance of duties.
- Participate in institutional professional development and training. Communicate with and provide excellent service to campus customers.
- Attend departmental training, such as safety and equipment training.
- Participate in the on-call rotation, and respond to emergencies situations, including during off hours, as needed.
- Perform related duties as assigned including campus snow removal efforts.
Service Calls and Customer Service
Assist plumber when responding to service calls and requests related to the operation, repair, maintenance, installation, and removal of plumbing related equipment (including dining specific equipment).Ensure work is of the highest quality while meeting all plumbing codes and safety requirements.Assist plumber when repairing heating, plumbing, steam, water and drainage systems (pipes, valves, pumps / motors, tanks, etc.).Troubleshoot minor and complex plumbing issues.Utilize electronic sources of trouble shooting and problem identification software.Using the work management software, maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and time expended.Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations, including during off hours, as needed.Preventative Maintenance and Project Work
Perform preventive maintenance activities on University plumbing equipment, including inspection and hands on preventive maintenance needs.Update and maintain records in the work management software and provide equipment condition assessments.Complete other plumbing assignments as designated.Safety and Training
Follow all plumbing and gas codes and recognized policies / procedures, techniques and safety precautions in the performance of your Plumbing duties.Keep current on all required safety trainings, code license updates, and any certifications required.Continuously seek out professional development opportunities that will benefit the University and your technical skills to stay current and knowledgeable of best practices and future trends and technologies.Minimum Qualifications :
6 months plumber helper or General Mechanic helper and / or enrollment in an approved plumbing licensure programValid motor vehicle operator's licenseKnowledge of applicable codes / ordinances.Knowledge of methods, tools and hazards of the trade.Ability to inspect equipment, determine malfunction and make necessary repairsKnowledge and ability to use computers, tablets, smart phones, and software systems to perform work duties.Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather conditions for prolonged periods of time.Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment as necessarySolid interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written, to effectively communicate with customers, team members, contractors and supervisorsApplicant Instructions :
