Job Title : Registered Nurse Profession : RN Specialty : Stepdown Unit Duration : 14 weeks Shift : 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift : 12 Experience : Minimum of 2 years License : Required Certifications : BLS Must-Have : Experience in a hospital of similar size and acuity Successful completion of at least 1 travel contract Telemetry experience Ability to titrate drips Description : Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience. The unit has 12 beds with a nurse to patient ratio of 4 : 1. Common diagnoses include Med-Surg, Sickle Cell, heart failure, etc. RNs will be required to titrate drips, however, common titratable drips are set rate. Charge nurses take an assignment on the unit. There are nurse aides present on the unit with ratios of 12 to 1. Respiratory equipment includes nasal masks, face masks, and BiPAP. Telemetry / monitoring is conducted on a separate floor with no dedicated Tele / Monitor Techs. RNs are not required to read their own strips; monitoring is done through designated equipment. The unit uses Space Lab for telemetry monitors. Self-scheduling is allowed along with block scheduling. Every other weekend is required. Holiday work is mandatory. There are no on-call or standby requirements. Floating to other units is not required. The dress code consists of navy scrubs. Unit and department-specific orientation includes a one-day computer skills assessment and two shifts with a preceptor. Cancellation policy allows for two shifts per assignment. The charting system used is MEDITECH - 6.1. A BSN is not required for this position.
