Job Summary :
The Patient Registration Representative I is responsible for enabling patients to access care at facilities by performing tasks related to registration and pre-registration of outpatient and inpatient accounts. This role involves calculating and securing patient liability, including copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles, while ensuring efficient, accurate, and hospitable service to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and the hospital.

Responsibilities :
- Safeguards patient confidentiality in accordance with State, Federal (HIPAA) regulations, and hospital policies.
- Ensures a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices.
- Addresses patient needs with consideration to age, resolving biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental concerns.
- Exhibits positive guest relations skills, greeting patients warmly, anticipating concerns, and providing clear explanations.
- Solves problems efficiently, sets priorities, and organizes work activities in a logical manner.
- Completes a minimum of 20 registrations per 8-hour shift, including scanning documents, insurance verification, and securing upfront collections.
- Registers all patients in a timely manner, completing the registration process within specified timeframes.
- Demonstrates flexibility by working productively in all registration departments and adjusting schedules as needed.
- Complies with all policies and procedures, ensuring accuracy in data entry and completion of required forms.
- Utilizes positive collection skills, requesting payments from patients with out-of-pocket expenses and educating them about their financial responsibilities.
- Participates in performance improvement programs and demonstrates a commitment to learning new skills.
- Adheres to attendance policies and provides timely notification of absences.
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Answers unit phone and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems. Documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment / supply needs. Notifies appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
Required Skills & Certifications :
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong attention to detail, with good English speaking, spelling, reading, and mathematical skills.Ability to learn quickly and follow directions.Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel, and ability to navigate multiple screens.Insurance knowledge.Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.Stringent adherence to all HIPAA laws.Strong typing skills (45+ wpm).Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent customer service and phone skills.One year of experience in a high-volume healthcare facility or medical office setting.High school graduate or equivalent.Drivers License; ability to travel to off-site locations (Outpatient only)Preferred Skills & Certifications :
Medical terminology knowledge.Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin).Evidence of continuing education.Insurance and billing experience.LA City Fire Card within 6 months of employment (PHGSH only).Special Considerations :
