Job Summary :

The Compliance Analyst ensures bank initiatives and lines of business processes comply with applicable Federal and State banking laws and regulations. Working within Southern's Compliance Risk Management System framework, the Compliance Analyst works closely with the Compliance Manager to conduct risk-based regulatory compliance monitoring and testing to ensure the effectiveness of the bank's Compliance Management System.

This position will work in one of our existing Southern Bancorp locations.

Responsibilities :

  • Monitor business line compliance with deposit and lending regulatory requirements including Advertising regulations, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth-in-Lending Act, Fair Housing Act, Flood Disaster Protection Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Homeowners Counseling, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Electronic Funds Transfer Act, and UDAAP.
  • Review policies, procedures, and practices to confirm compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Develop monitoring and testing plans for the department to evaluate business line compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Perform testing of business line processes to evaluate compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Document findings clearly and thoroughly in approved workpapers.
  • Analyze findings for patterns and trends
  • Work with business line representatives to determine the root cause of issues.
  • Evaluate testing results and conclude on the effectiveness of the bank's compliance related policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Draft reports of findings to be communicated to management.
  • Develop and maintain the bank's compliance risk assessments and the Compliance Department's risk-based monitoring and testing schedule.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree and at least three years of recent (within the last five years) experience within a financial institution specifically with consumer compliance, experience in an internal quality control / compliance review function preferred. Experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
  • Basic knowledge of banking laws and regulations, including Flood Disaster Protection Act, Truth-in-Lending Act, Truth in Savings, and Home Mortgage Disclosure Ac
  • Ability to understand and research government regulations, trade journals, and legal documents.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to define issues, collect data, determine facts, identify root causes, and draw valid conclusions
  • Strong time management skills
  • Proficient with Excel, Outlook, Teams, MS Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong verbal communication and business writing abilities
  • Detail-oriented, accurate, and able to multi-task; possess good mathematical aptitude.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and ensure the completion of work assignments with appropriate attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate as a team member with good skills in working independently and autonomously
