Job descriptionManage trademark portfolio, including filings, renewals, oppositions, and enforcement. Conduct and oversee name and trademark clearances for new brands, sub-brands, and product launches. Advise on product packaging, trade dress, and brand protection strategy. Coordinate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders to maintain and defend IP assets. Provide legal and regulatory guidance on product development, labeling, ingredient review, and marketing claims for cosmetics, OTC products, and personal care items. Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, including the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act (MoCRA), and other applicable consumer product laws. Advise marketing and product teams on FTC advertising and endorsement guidelines, including substantiation of claims and influencer disclosures. Support regulatory reporting, safety documentation, and recall readiness processes. Monitor evolving U.S. and global regulations affecting beauty and wellness products and communicate key updates to stakeholders. Review marketing, advertising, and promotional content across channels (digital, social, print, packaging) for compliance with FTC, FDA, and other applicable standards and state laws. Review and negotiate influencer, affiliate, and talent agreements, ensuring appropriate disclosures, content rights, and brand alignment. Support sweepstakes, giveaways, and promotional campaigns to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws. Provide guidance on consumer data privacy, online marketing practices, and compliance with CCPA / CPRA, GDPR, and similar frameworks. Review digital experiences for compliance with privacy, consent, and advertising laws. Partner with IT, marketing, and operations teams to maintain best practices in data collection and security. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor, distribution, manufacturing, and marketing contracts. Advise cross-functional teams on day-to-day legal issues, balancing risk management with practical business solutions. Support corporate governance, employment, and compliance initiatives as needed. Assist the General Counsel in managing litigation, pre-litigation disputes, and regulatory inquiries. Coordinate with outside counsel on discovery, responses, and case strategy. Support internal investigations, compliance reviews, and risk mitigation efforts. Provide generalist legal support across functions as needed, including HR, operations, and finance. Serve as a trusted advisor to the General Counsel and leadership team on emerging legal issues. J.D. from an accredited law school; admitted to practice and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 3-5 years of legal experience, with at least 2 years in-house or advising consumer goods, beauty, or wellness brands. Strong knowledge of trademark law, advertising and marketing regulations, and influencer marketing compliance. Experience with FDA and FTC regulations, including MoCRA implementation and claims substantiation for cosmetic or OTC products. Familiarity with data privacy, consumer protection, and e-commerce law. Excellent judgment, communication, and negotiation skills with a pragmatic, business-oriented approach. Ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Exceptional organizational skills, acute attention to detail. About The Role :
The Legal Counsel will be a key member of the legal team, supporting the company’s innovation, marketing, and compliance initiatives. This role involves advising on intellectual property, FDA and FTC regulatory matters, privacy, and commercial contracts. The ideal candidate brings both legal expertise and commercial acumen, someone who can translate complex legal frameworks into actionable business guidance in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
