Established in 1990 the Hawaii Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program is one of 63 recipient organizations across the U.S and the U.S. Small Business Administrations (SBAs) largest matching grant-funded program. We provide quality research training workshops and consulting services to the local small business community.
Our research is directly shared with our clients via consulting sessions workshops and events. We utilize several reputable resources both online and with community partners to conduct our research goals. Our staff continuously support the local business environment and serve as an advocate for the small business sector. Workshop topics on a broad spectrum are always abundant and another one of the ways we continue to service the business community across Hawaii.
The Operation Coordinator is responsible for the overall strategic and operational success of the Kauai Small Business Development Center (SBDC). This leadership role balances high-level management and community advocacy with direct client service providing high-quality one-on-one business advising to entrepreneurs and small business owners on complex topics such as business planning financial management market analysis exporting and technology commercialization.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and oversee the execution of Center work plans ensuring complete accurate and timely data reporting for performance metrics and client documentation.
Ensure all administrative duties and Center operations conform to governmental laws directives regulations and host institution / RCUH policies.
Continuously assess the effectiveness of Center operations making recommendations to state leadership for process improvements.
Participate with SBDC network leadership in the annual negotiation process for the allocation of Network goals to the Center.
Actively engage in advocacy for small business interests and conduct proactive public relations and outreach activities to promote the Hawaii SBDC.
Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including elected officials economic development organizations and financial institutions.
Serve on local and state-level boards committees and task forces to advance the SBDCs mission within the small business community.
Engage in continuous professional development to maintain credentials and expertise in core competencies as required by the SBDC Network.
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration Management Finance Economics or related field from an accredited four (4) year college or university. Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in managerial consulting small business management or business assistance or any equivalent combination of education and / or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of starting and operating a successful small business in Hawaii including familiarity with local business conditions and cultural context as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies including familiarity with local business conditions and cultural context.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with small business operation and non-profit / federally funded grant compliance.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and utilize standard business software including word processing spreadsheets and Client Management Software (CRM).
For supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
Demonstrated strategic planning and managerial expertise to direct staff oversee operations.
Must possess professional and technical knowledge to accurately deliver high-level counseling (including business planning finance and strategic development)
Strong understanding of business finance lending institutions and access to capital.
Knowledge of governmental laws directives regulations and policies relevant to a non-profit / federally funded organization and a host institution (RCUH / University).
Exceptional communication and presentation skills (verbal written and visual) for effectively engaging diverse audiences including clients officials and community leaders in both in-person and virtual settings.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively efficiently and highly independently exercising strategic planning and sound judgment with confidential information.
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and meet all requirements for use of a personal vehicle on the job.
Desirable Qualifications
Masters degree in business or related field from an accredited college or university.
Two (2) years of managerial or supervisory experience including the formal oversight of professional staff and operations.
Strong knowledge of Hawaiis business environment and economic development landscape.
Familiarity and experience with Center Dynamics or similar Client Management Systems.
Proficient in using Constant Contact or similar software for email marketing and list management .
