This is primarily a quick-hit project that starts ASAP, and could settle into a regular part-time gig.
What the organization needs is a first and last quality assurance check for marketing and communications content. As the content is prepared, it will all go through you. Medical terms, doctors’ names and titles, citations in medical journals all need to be checked and double-checked. Beyond this, however, you’ll also be using your substantial editorial acumen to make sure the content is informative and accessible. You’ll be working on newsletters and department reports meant for doctors, scientists and faculty members, but no one benefits if the content doesn’t get read.
There’s an internal style guide, but if you’re familiar with the big ones like Chicago and AP, there won’t be any surprises there.

You’re a top-notch proofreader with an eye for accuracy, and a solid general knowledge of medical and science terminology. You know how to ensure consistency and adherence to a style guide. You always keep your audience in mind, and you make sure the content you’re working on serves their interests. You know exactly when to make fixes yourself and when to kick the copy back to the team for a re-write.
You’re also a master of managing multiple projects and tight deadlines. And, because this gig doesn’t require you to work in the office, you are a self-starter who can drive projects to completion without supervision.
