Position Overview
This role is essential for delivering exceptional, patient-focused care within a telemetry unit. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level is responsible for continuous cardiac monitoring and managing patients with complex cardiac and neurological conditions. This position demands specialized certifications, autonomous decision-making, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor patients requiring continuous cardiac telemetry.
Perform thorough assessments and respond promptly to acute changes in cardiac rhythms and neurological status.Administer medications, including non-titratable drips, and monitor therapeutic effects.Develop and implement personalized care plans for patients with cardiac and neurological conditions.Advocate for patients, ensuring dignity, empathy, and compassionate care.Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes.Promote evidence-based telemetry care practices.Safety and Compliance :Maintain a safe, clean environment adhering to infection control and hospital policies.
Comply with regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA.Report safety hazards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.Documentation :Accurately document patient care, interventions, and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following patient care standards.
Professional Development and Leadership :Provide mentorship and preceptorship to new graduate nurses, new hires, and students.
Engage in continuing education and unit-based learning.Serve as a resource for best telemetry practices.Act as Relief Charge Nurse when needed.Emergency Preparedness :Respond swiftly to cardiac emergencies such as arrhythmias and chest pain with advanced clinical skills.
Qualifications
Experience :
Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or equivalent intermediate care setting.Experience providing post-procedure care including post-cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG care.Proficient in ECG / EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.Competencies :
Technical proficiency with centralized cardiac monitoring systems.Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years telemetry nursing experience may be considered.Licenses and Certifications
Current Registered Nurse license in the applicable state.Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for progressive care units; transitional nurses must obtain within six months.Preferred : Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) or equivalent.Successful candidates must pass physical evaluation, drug screening, and background checks prior to employment.
