Job description

Job Summary : The Director-Patient Business Office coordinates all activities related to the overall operations of the Billing Office. Supports managers and supervisors to ensure proper staffing in achieving maximum productivity. Monitors account receivables daily to ensure an even cash flow. Communicates with the PBO leadership on a regular basis to report financials and to report potential risks that may have an impact on the operations and cash. Mentors and coaches managers and supervisors under their leadership to ensure a harmonious environment. Collaborates with all the various departments within the organization to improve processes and to maximize revenue. Works closely with the various systems vendors to detect and resolve problems that may arise, also to identify opportunities to gain efficiencies. Works closely with the various collection agencies to ensure insurance follow up accounts are worked timely and aggressively. Participates in the implementation of new systems and applications. Proactive in finding ways to gain efficiencies through technology and process improvements. These services may be provided for LLUMC, LLUCH and LLUMC-Murrieta hospitals. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree required. Minimum six years of direct Academic Medical Center management experience required in a large complex hospital-based facility and experience specializing in billing and collections. Direct experience in process re-engineering and design preferred. Hospital mainframe computer experience from the user or technical perspective preferred. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Knowledge and Skills : Ability to read and interpret documents such as managed care contracts, billing manuals, billing bulletins, CMS Program Memorandums, safety documents, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Able to write routine reports and correspondence and interpret statistical data. Able to speak effectively before large or small groups of employees, administration, patients and other internal or external entities. Able to read; write and speak in English with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Access); operate / troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; provide leadership; be assertive and consistent in enforcing policies ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, rules and laws; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Think critically; work independently; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
