Your Role
The Controller will serve as the senior accounting leader, responsible for managing all financial operations within the organization. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic oversight of accounting processes. The Controller will partner with executive leadership to support sustainable growth, maintain fiscal integrity, and implement best practices in financial management.
What You'll Be Doing
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Oversee preparation of accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, state and federal regulations, and health insurance industry standards.
- Coordinate annual audits and regulatory filings (including Medicare / Medi-Cal cost reports, IRS 990, and state insurance reporting).
Budgeting & Forecasting
Develop annual budgets and rolling forecasts.Monitor performance against budget and recommend cost-efficiency initiatives.Accounting Operations
Direct all accounting functions : general ledger, accounts payable / receivable, payroll, and premium reconciliation.Maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and prevent fraud.Leadership & Team Development
Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.Evaluate team performance and recommend training or staffing adjustments.Strategic Support
Provide financial analysis and insights to inform executive decision-making.Assist in developing financial policies and procedures to support organizational goals.What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA strongly preferred).5+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in health insurance or healthcare.Strong knowledge of GAAP, insurance accounting, and regulatory compliance.Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (advanced functions); experience with Microsoft Dynamics preferred.Expertise in regulatory filings and audit coordination.Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in health insurance accounting, including premium reconciliation and cost reporting.Familiarity with Medicare / Medicaid financial compliance.Prior experience in high-growth or multi-state organizations.
