The Director of Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) plays a critical leadership role in driving the company's inorganic growth strategy through the identification, evaluation, and execution of strategic acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures.
Reporting to the VP, Corporate Development, this leader will manage the full transaction lifecycle from deal sourcing and financial modeling to due diligence, negotiation, and post-close integration while partnering closely with executive leadership, business unit leaders, and cross-functional teams.
This role is ideal for a strategic, execution-oriented professional with strong financial acumen, relationship management skills, and a deep understanding of the building materials, distribution, or industrial sectors.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Strategic Deal Leadership
- Partner with the VP, Corporate Development to refine the company's inorganic growth strategy and target selection criteria.
- Lead the end-to-end M&A process, including market mapping, target outreach, valuation, due diligence, and deal execution.
- Support development of the strategic acquisition pipeline, identifying both tuck-in and transformative opportunities aligned with long-term growth goals.
- Build and maintain relationships with target company executives, investment bankers, private equity firms, and industry advisors.
Financial & Analytical Leadership
Develop and oversee detailed financial models, scenario analyses, and synergy estimates to evaluate target company performance and value creation potential.Partner with Finance and Accounting to assess transaction impact on earnings, cash flow, and capital structure.Lead preparation of investment committee materials, presentations, and executive briefings for C-suite and Board review.Cross-Functional Due Diligence & Integration
Coordinate cross-functional due diligence teams (Finance, Legal, HR, IT, Operations, etc.) to assess target risk, culture, and integration requirements.Partner with business and functional leaders to ensure smooth handoff from transaction to integration.Track post-close performance to measure synergy capture and deal ROI.Governance & Process Management
Maintain and continuously improve M&A processes, tools, and playbooks to support scalable growth.Ensure compliance with internal controls, legal requirements, and approval protocols throughout the transaction process.Mentor and develop junior team members, promoting analytical rigor and professional growth within the Corporate Development function.Supervisory Responsibilities

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or related field required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.812+ years of progressive experience in M&A, investment banking, private equity, or corporate development, preferably within industrial, manufacturing, distribution, or building materials sectors.Demonstrated success managing complex M&A transactions from origination through integration.Proven ability to partner across functions and influence executive decision-making.Competencies
