Driver For Utah STEM Action Center
The Utah STEM Action Center is looking for a reliable and safe Driver to transport materials for our STEM in Motion program. This is a crucial role that ensures schools and groups across the state can access our high-quality educational resources.
Program and Equipment Qualifications
Our curriculum kits are designed to provide engaging, hands-on learning experiences. They come fully supplied with state-of-the-art equipment, detailed lesson videos, career connection resources, and more. Given the value and educational importance of these materials, the ideal candidate must be qualified to handle them with care :
- Valuable Cargo Handling : Must demonstrate an ability to safely load, secure, and transport sensitive and often expensive scientific and technological equipment (e.g., robotics, specialized sensors, electronic components).
- Logistical Punctuality : Must be capable of strictly adhering to a two-week rotation schedule for kit delivery and retrieval, as delays directly impact a school's classroom time. The ability to manage a demanding, pre-determined route is essential.
- Geographical Familiarity (or Aptitude) : Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. While specific state-wide driving experience is a plus, the candidate must at least be willing and able to navigate diverse routes across varying regions of Utah from urban centers to rural districts.
Candidate Qualifications and Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications :
Essential RequirementsAge and Legal Status : Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States (must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident). Documentation confirming this status will be required.Background Check : Applicants must successfully submit to and pass an FBI background check and National Sex Offender Database check prior to hire, in accordance with the National Service Criminal History Check (NSCHC) requirements.Technology Skills : Must be proficient with basic computer software and email for logging trips, communicating with staff, and accessing scheduling information.Driving Qualifications :Possess a valid Driver's License and maintain a clean driving record.Must be skilled in safely operating a vehicle in a variety of conditions, including all types of weather, while strictly adhering to all traffic laws, rules, and regulations.A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required.Preferred QualificationsInterpersonal Comfort : Preference will be given to candidates who are comfortable and effective in interacting professionally with various stakeholders, including teachers, school administrators, program managers, and other Utah STEM Action Center staff. The ability to be a courteous and professional representative of the Utah STEM Action Center is highly valued.Possible Schedule Overview (Subject to Change)
The STEM in Motion program operates on a fixed, two-week check-out cycle during the academic year (approximately September to May). This role requires dedication to the delivery and retrieval schedule to ensure continuous service to schools across the state. This position will work approximately 10 hours a week.
Week 1 : DeliveryKit Loading & DeploymentTransport new kits from the Utah STEM Action Center office to scheduled schools across a designated route within Utah. Kits are delivered directly to the front office staff.Week 2 : Down TimeOffice Duties & PreparationNo driving to / from schools. The employee may assist with administrative tasks, kit inventory checks, vehicle maintenance checks, and planning the next rotation's route.Week 3 : RetrievalKit Collection & ReturnDrive the designated route to retrieve the used kits from schools (collected from the front office staff) and return them safely to the Utah STEM Action Center office.Week 4 : Down TimeOffice Duties & PreparationSame as Week 2. This cycle repeats every two weeks.
