Lone Star Turbo is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our fast-growing engineering and R&D team. In this role, you will take ownership of designing, developing, and supporting high-performance turbomachinery products. You’ll bring solid models into final fabrication drawings, collaborate with vendors such as foundries and machine shops, and work closely with our design group to deliver finished, conforming products.

Success in this role requires end-to-end design and production experience , a proven ability to deliver tight-tolerance mechanical designs, and the leadership skills to collaborate across disciplines. This is not just a design role—it’s an opportunity to drive innovation and quality from concept to finished product.

Mission / Purpose

  • Design & Development – Lead the design of new and existing Lone Star Turbo products, ensuring compliance with mechanical, rotor dynamic, and aerodynamic requirements.
  • Design Process Excellence – Create design plans, participate in engineering design reviews, and follow engineering approval processes.
  • Product Lifecycle Support – Maintain and support legacy products through Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).

Key Outcomes

  • Deliver high-quality designs that meet performance and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure 100% adherence to design guidelines, approval processes, and documentation standards.
  • Execute all ECRs and ECNs with complete compliance to change management protocols.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design efficiency, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Design Compliance Rate : 100% of new and updated designs meet defined performance requirements as finished products.
  • Documentation Standards : 100% adherence to established design and documentation standards.
  • Process Improvement : Demonstrated reduction in design cycle time, improved manufacturability, and measurable cost savings.

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) required
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, with proven success in tight-tolerance design through to finished product
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Hands-on experience with design validation tools (stress analysis, tolerance stack-ups, engineering calculations)
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (casting, machining, fabrication)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional collaboration
