GENERAL PURPOSE :
The Hospital / Community Development Associate (HDCA) develops and implements strategies to increase organ and tissue donation in assigned hospitals in the Finger Lakes Donor Recovery Network (FLDRN) designated service area (DSA). The HDCA develops and maintains cooperative relationships with hospital staff, coordinates specific hospital development and community events and provides support for day to day hospital development activities throughout the DSA. The HDCA will also participate in community events which support organ and tissue donation. The HDCA supports FLDRN's goals and objectives to maximize organ / tissue donation and actively participates in local, regional and national initiatives to implement best practices in the field of the hospital development in assigned hospitals.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
Hospital Development
Develop and execute strategic plans to increase the identification, referral and recovery of medically suitable organ, eye and tissue donors in assigned hospitals.
Performs and documents mandatory Medical Record Reviews to identify missed potential donors.
Regularly collects and provides organ and tissue data for FLDRN and hospital reporting.
Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the donation process and identifies barriers to donation in each assigned hospital.
Establish positive relationships with hospital personnel, e.g. CEO's, administrators, physicians, department directors, and nurses to increase organ and tissue referrals.
Schedule and conduct formal and informal in-service educational programs with hospital personnel to create awareness and improve donation rates and outcomes.
Implement initiatives that results in a positive culture of donation at assigned hospitals (i.e. flag raising ceremonies, Donate Life Month and Workplace Partnership for Life activities).
Represent FLDRN at hospital meetings.
Facilitate follow-up on all referral and donation activities.
Develop, implement and track FLDRN professional education programs and strategies to increase organ donation including but not limited to organizing donor councils, task forces and or work groups to increase collaboration between OPO and hospitals
Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the donation process including AOPO, OPTN / UNOS policies and procedures.
Monitor hospital compliance with regulatory and professional agencies (CMS, JCAHO, DNV, HRSA, AOPO)
Work collaboratively with all other donation agencies to facilitate development activities.
Represent FLDRN in local, regional and national efforts to increase donation outcomes.
Community Development
Creates, designs and leads strategic programs that foster effective partnerships with agencies, community organizations and groups that have a direct impact to increase enrollments in the New York State Donate Life Registry. (i.e. County Clerks and DMV offices throughout the counties corresponding with assigned hospitals)
Identifies, coordinates and executes public events and donor enrollment drives that are strategically aligned to accomplish community development initiatives.
Coordinates activities in assigned region for donation observances (i.e. Donate Life Month, Eye Donor Month, BRA Day, National Donor Day and NYS Donor Enrollment Day).
Responsible for tracking donor registration trends in assigned counties.
Recruits, trains and utilizes volunteers living in assigned geographic region to assist with community events and media requests.
Operational Support
Participate in FLDRN events that supports donor families in the community.
Contributes to Development meetings, staff meetings and others as needed.
Participates in related professional agencies and work groups.

REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelor's Degree required.
Minimum 3 years relevant experience in marketing, sales or public relations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Prior experience and at least 2 years work-related experience in one or more of the following areas : healthcare (direct or indirect patient care) organ, eye or tissue donation; transplantation; healthcare-related non-profit preferred.
Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills, including written communication; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Powerpoint. Ability to problem-solve required.
Ability to create and give presentations; event coordination; knowledge of hospital systems; able to multi-task and prioritize work; strategic planning skills preferred.
