Center City Public Charter Schools (Center City PCS) empower our students for lifelong success by building strong character, promoting academic excellence, and generating public service throughout Washington, D.C. Our network serves over 1,400 students annually at our six campuses across the District, with a staff of over 250 dedicated individuals.

We seek compassionate and committed individuals to join our team as Dedicated Aides for the upcoming school year. This is an impactful opportunity to make a meaningful difference by providing individualized support to students with disabilities, helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The goal of a Dedicated Aide (DA) at Center City is to ensure the student you support is constantly growing and achieving the goals set for the scholar to become self-sustaining and move beyond needing a DA!

Responsibilities

General Student Support and Safety :

  • Support the delivery of effective differentiated instruction under the guidance of classroom and special education teachers.
  • Engage with or closely supervise the assigned student at all times.
  • Guide the student to develop social problem-solving, play, and positive behavior strategies.
  • Support transitions, redirections and social skill development
  • Accompany assigned children within the total school environment to ensure safe ratios and continue to provide services as appropriate.

Instructional Support :

  • Reviews student IEP to anticipate challenges within the instructional block
  • Remain knowledgeable of student's accommodations as outlined in the IEP; ensure accommodations are consistently provided.
  • Provide appropriate and teacher-suggested guidance during academic tasks
  • Document and track collected observations and data on student learning and behavior.
  • Remain engaged in the classroom during whole group, small group, and independent work time.
  • Behavioral Support :

  • Anticipate triggers within the school environment; mitigate triggers wherever possible and be prepared to respond to student needs.
  • Implement behavior supports and strategies as outlined in the student's Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP).
  • Maintain certification and training to manage escalating behaviors, including approved Crisis Prevention Institute techniques; only use CPI-approved methods of managing escalating behaviors.
  • Document and track collected observations and data on student learning and behavior.
  • Maintain emotional constancy at all times.
  • Collaboration and Communication :

  • Participate actively in the Center City PCS learning community via PLCs, campus / district professional development, and weekly campus-based grade-level planning sessions.
  • Engage families by building positive relationships to support the student's academic and personal goals.
  • Reflect on teaching by accepting ongoing informal feedback and implementing changes based on that feedback.
  • Compliance and Professional Expectations :

  • Follow school-wide procedures regarding attire, behavior, and punctuality.
  • Consistently follow schedule as assigned in IEP; attend and participate in related service sessions unless otherwise indicated by Coordinator / Director or RSP
  • Maintain appropriate skills and certification for assigned student(s), for example, sign language, Crisis Prevention Institute, or health and safety-related training.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned to support the student and school community as long as assigned duties are not impacted.
  • Participate in occasional school events outside regular school hours.
  • Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Passion for working with children, particularly those with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to implement behavior management strategies and adapt to challenging situations.
  • Commitment to supporting students with disabilities and diverse learning needs
  • Passed the ParaPro or have an AA or BA
  • 1-2 years of experience working with students with disabilities preferred
