Description : POSITION OVERVIEW
The Irrigation Technician is an experienced landscape professional that is responsible for a variety of maintenance related activities including, but not limited to; irrigation installations, adjustments, inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting; water feature checks and troubleshooting, landscape lighting inspections, adjustments, and troubleshooting, punch list items, warranty items, and other miscellaneous landscape management and snow related activities.
JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Reviewing job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis
- Plan daily tasks, labor, materials, and equipment for current and next day’s work
- Read and interpret aerial service maps
- Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans
- Working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used
- Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques
- Knowledge of different irrigation systems including sprinkler and drip systems
- Lead team members performing the following landscape services :
- Irrigation systems : installation, controller programming, and seasonal adjustment
- Irrigation audits : inspecting and testing existing irrigation systems for any issues or needed repairs and performing necessary repairs
- Irrigation start-ups and shutdowns : start irrigation systems in the spring and shutdown in the fall
- Ability to troubleshoot / repair / replace irrigation pumps
- Ability to identify and repair electrical / wiring problems
- Blowing : using handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces
- Landscape bed maintenance : spray and pull weeds
- Lighting : controller programming, repair and replacement of lighting system components
- Plant health : identify basic plant health and turf health issues regarding diseases and insects
- Spring clean-ups : bed cleanout, bed edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation
- As needed assist in leaf removal : use of Ventrac, backpack blowers, stand-on zero turns with baggers, and truck mounted leaf vac to conduct seasonal leaf removals
- Participate in snow removal
- Any other tasks necessary.
- Operates small and medium duty tools and equipment to include but not limited to : push mower, zero turn mower, walk behind mower, leaf vac, Ventrac, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, chainsaw, pole saw, string trimmer, stick edger, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer / bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader
- Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits via issue tickets.
- Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities and knows limits of work.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.
The team member is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday as well as weekends & overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 6 : 50 AM until 5 : 00 PM.
Requirements :
A high school degree or GED is required as well as two years of documented experience in the green industryMust have great verbal and written communication skillsMust be able to use Apple technology for time tracking and job managementMust have great analytical problem solving and decision-making abilityMust have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionalsAbility to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workersResponsible for training and coaching a team of two or more team members to help develop their skills & ensure team members receive proper trainingMaintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensure truck / tools / equipment are properly maintained.Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standardResponsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairsAbility to drive truck & trailer combinationsMaintain a neat and clean professional appearancePerforms daily check-ins with Group Leader by 3 : 00 PM to discuss current project status and equipment needs for the following dayWorks as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitudeKnows and supports the company’s vision, mission, and core valuesCERTIFICATIONS
Valid Virginia driver’s license with insurable driving recordVDACS Registered Tech CertificationCPR / First Aid CertificationNALP Landscape Technician Cert. - Landscape Install & Irrigation$20.51 - $26.00 / hr
