Overview

The Data Scientist / ML model developer will join SoFi's Fraud Model Development Team. Responsibilities include model development and performance monitoring to support data-driven decision-making in partnership with Fraud and Risk management teams. The role involves developing Fraud models to reduce loss, minimize false positives, and help SoFi protect members across products and services (Personal Loans, Student Loans, Credit Cards and Crypto).

The Staff Data Scientist contributes to performance analysis of SoFi products using empirical measurements, develops quantitative and ML models to minimize Fraud losses, and provides insights on loss drivers. The role requires knowledge of data analytics and modeling using Python and ML packages, strong problem-solving skills, and hands-on experience with common Fraud reduction methodologies and data science techniques (e.g., linear / logistic regression, decision trees, gradient boosting, random forests, neural networks, clustering, etc.).

What you'll do

  • Develop quantitative / machine learning models to reduce Fraud losses and OpEx related to supporting Fraud complaints and disputes
  • Aggregate and synthesize datasets from multiple data environments
  • Analyze complex datasets to understand performance and drivers for losses across products
  • Investigate external risk data to identify trends in the market and industry
  • Conduct loss sensitivity analysis
  • Automate models and analytical dashboards
  • Monitor model performance and recalibrate as needed
  • Collaborate with Business Units, Operations, Product, Capital Markets, Finance, Accounting and Risk partners to ensure accurate loss expectations and communicate trends effectively

What you'll need

  • 5+ years of loss forecasting experience and / or a Master's or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a quantitative field
  • Proficient in Python, SQL & Tableau
  • Hands-on model development and data analysis experience with knowledge of data science, statistical methodologies, and ML models (linear / logistic regression, decision trees, gradient boosting, random forests, neural networks, clustering, etc.)
  • Knowledge of common loss forecasting methodologies
  • Highly motivated, enjoys driving change, eager to learn, and able to collaborate in a complex environment
  • Nice to have

  • Familiarity with graph databases
  • Experience in developing and productionizing models in AWS

    The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as experience, skills, and location. The base pay range shown is $128,000.00 / yr - $240,000.00 / yr.
