DIS-TRAN Steel is looking for an Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our team in our Pineville, LA plant. The Electrical Maintenance Technician will install, repair, and maintain electrical equipment throughout the plant following all safety standards and observing the local, state, and national electrical-code regulations pertaining to the work being conducted. The Electrical Maintenance Technician will ensure the continued functioning of electrical equipment by its proper installation, maintenance, and repair. The person in this position must be able to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations. The person must also be comfortable interpreting PLC ladder logic programs. Other tasks in this role include performing preventative maintenance inspections and electrical current tests. Success in this role will be demonstrated by the continued successful completion of assigned tasks with minimized equipment downtime. This individual has the ability to train and qualify individuals in the Maintenance positions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Installs, repairs, and maintains the electrical parts of industrial equipment.
- Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
- Install circuit breaker panels, switches, schematic circuit diagrams, single line diagrams,
- wiring diagrams, ladder, and logic diagrams.
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair industrial, electrical, and electronic control systems and other related devices.
- Tests faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
- Tests electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, or repairing equipment, to detect and prevent problems.
- Calibrates testing instruments and installs or repairs equipment to prescribed specifications.
- Reads and interprets drawings, blueprints, schematics and electrical code specifications to determine layout of industrial electrical equipment installations.
- Troubleshooting MCC buckets.
- Examines work orders and converse with equipment operators to detect equipment problems and to ascertain whether mechanical or human errors contributed to the problems.
- Consults with operators, supervisors, or engineers to plan layout of equipment or to resolve problems in system operation or maintenance.
- Maintains inventory of spare parts.
- Maintain, repair, install and test switchgear, transformers, switchboard meters, regulators and reactors.
- Monitors and maintains production equipment as assigned.
- Can troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and provide corrective action on all machines with full Tech support.
- Disassembles machine prior to maintenance work.
- Reassembles machines after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
- Starts machines and observes mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.
- Inspects or tests damaged machine parts, and marks defective areas or advises supervisors of repair needs.
- Maintain, repair, test, and install electrical motors, generators, alternators, and industrial storage. batteries, hydraulic, and pneumatic electrical control systems.
- Ability to run conduit.
- Pull wire up to 500kv or higher.
- Knowledge of 480 / 3 phase electrical systems.
- Advise management regarding product performance or suggestions for product improvements.
- Ability to train and qualify individuals in the Maintenance positions.
- Send defective units to the manufacturer or to a specialized repair shop for repair.
- Dismantles machines and removes parts for repair, using specified tools.
- Records production, repair, and machine maintenance information.
- Reads work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
- Holds a working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Performs scheduled preventative maintenance.
- Able to contact manufacturer tech support and relay information and issues on all critical equipment.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN :
High school diploma or GED certificate.Completion of a trade school or training program is a plus.Certificate of completion in an apprenticeship program is a plus.Journeyman status is required.Knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design is required.Minimum of ten years electrical experience is required.Minimum five years’ experience in an industrial environment is preferred.OSHA 10 certification is a plus.Willingness to work night shifts, weekends and holidays as necessary is required.Experience using hand tools.Mechanical skills are preferred.Industrial control software experience.Follows safety procedures and adheres to electrical codes.Able to understand schematics and other technical documents.Must be able to handle physically demanding tasks.Ability to deal with problems involving multiple variables.Must be capable of working, functioning and communicating in a possible stress inducing environment.Possess strong work ethic, good judgment and decision-making skills.Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, decimals; simple dimensional math.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other plant employees.Works individually or as part of a team to successfully complete projects.Good customer service skills.Correctly interprets technical documents for proper execution of assignments.Ability to train individuals in the Maintenance positions.Regular, reliable attendance is required.As strategists, operational experts, customer advocates and team players, we all believe in the power of our people.
