Controls Engineer – Critical Power Location : Hackettstown, NJ (or within 1 hour) Compensation : $125,000–$150,000 per year (based on experience) Benefits : Full benefits package + company vehicle (take-home eligible) Overview : We’re seeking an experienced Controls Engineer – Critical Power to join our team in Hackettstown, NJ. This position plays a key role in the design, development, and implementation of advanced control systems for low and medium-voltage switchgear applications across multiple industries. You’ll design high-performance systems, program PLCs and SCADA platforms, and support projects from concept through commissioning. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned engineer who’s passionate about reliability, safety, and power systems performance. Key Responsibilities : Design control systems for low and medium-voltage switchgear (480V–38kV). Develop one-line diagrams, schematics, and control panel layouts. Specify, configure, and program PLCs (Siemens, GE Fanuc, Emerson) and SCADA systems. Configure and test protection relays, power meters, and automation systems. Develop and maintain SCADA / HMI applications (e.g., Siemens WinCC, Wonderware InTouch). Conduct specification reviews, project takeoffs, and compliance checks. Execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). Diagnose and troubleshoot PLCs, SCADA systems, relays, and power quality equipment. Prepare and maintain technical documentation and as-built drawings. Train customers and internal teams on system operations. Provide technical support and on-call services as needed. Qualifications : Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent technical background). 8–10 years of experience in control system engineering focused on switchgear design. Proficiency in PLC programming, SCADA / HMI development, and relay protection. Knowledge of network architecture and communication protocols. Ability to read and create one-line diagrams and panel layouts. Familiarity with electrical safety standards and construction job site practices. Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to manage multiple projects independently. Must pass background check and comply with drug-free workplace policies. Experience with NetSuite ERP is a plus. Travel : Approximately 10% travel required. Occasional weekend or off-hours work when needed. Company covers all travel and meal expenses.
