Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position requiring proficiency in post-anesthesia recovery and call coverage responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Work in the PACU / Day Surgery unit within an acute care settingUnit includes 6 beds in Phase 1 and 10 beds in Phase 2 recoveryPatient population includes post-operative cases such as ENT (including some pediatric), urology, orthopedics, general surgery, gynecology, endoscopy, ophthalmology, and dental (pediatric)Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 1 in accordance with ASPAN guidelinesStart times and shift lengths vary with department needs; shifts may be 8, 10, or 12 hoursWeekend call required every 10th or 11th weekend, with weekday call scheduled Monday through FridayFloating required to Admitting, Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery as neededUses Epic EMR; prior Epic experience preferredTele monitoring required with the ability to read and interpret stripsVentilator equipment includes 840s and travel vents, managed primarily by RT but RN must be able to troubleshootDay and evening shifts available with varying start timesTeamwork is essential; must work well with othersICU patients are recovered in ICU; PACU staff do not recover ICU patientsTypical patient length of stay is 45 minutes to 1 hour in PACUCharge nurse may take an assignment if necessaryNo nurse aides assigned; RN is responsible for full patient care during recoveryOne week of floor-specific orientation providedScrubs are providedHoliday coverage rotates with permanent staffHousing with pets is very challenging in this area and requires special arrangementsRequirements
Active Oregon RN license requiredMinimum of 2 years recent RN experienceCurrent certifications : BLS, ACLS, and PALSProficiency in post-anesthesia or PACU recovery requiredMust be familiar with both Phase 1 and 2 recovery processesAbility to read and interpret telemetry stripsMust be able to troubleshoot ventilator equipmentEpic EMR experience preferredBenefits
