Job Details

Med / Surge Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.

Prepare and administer prescribed medications (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and record them.

Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments according to policy.

Educate patients on surgical procedures.

Record patients’ medical information and vital signs.

Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpret and record electronic displays.

Initiate corrective action when patient displays adverse symptoms.

Provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.

Initiate patient education plan as prescribed by physician.

Teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness / injury, including post-treatment home care needs.

Change dressings, insert catheters, start IVs.

Prepare equipment and aid physician during examination and treatment of patient.

Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.

Participate in discharge planning.

Utilize time management skills.

Record all care information concisely, accurately, completely, and timely in appropriate format and forms.

Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.

Job Requirements

Must have Tennessee RN or multi-state compact license, attached to resume.

Must have ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications through the American Heart Association, attached to submission.

Must have 2 years recent Med / Surg experience.
