Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Orthopedics position with a NE or compact RN license and at least two years of acute care experience.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care hospital setting within the Med / Surg Ortho unit22-bed unit with an average census of 6 patientsCommon patient population includes post-surgical cases such as hip, knee, ankle, shoulder, and spine proceduresNurse to patient ratio is typically 1 : 5-6Assignment requires 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and rotating holidaysEpic EMR is used for chartingTele boxes are used; tele techs handle strip interpretationFloat to Med / Surg, rehab, or PCU with similar acuity as requiredPrimary responsibilities include care for post-operative orthopedic and surgical patientsSupport staff includes nurse aides / patient care techs with a 1 : 13 ratioUnit emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and a willingness to learnOrientation consists of one department-specific day and a 12-hour general orientationBlocked scheduling is generally not permitted except on weekendsAll staff must comply with the policy prohibiting artificial nails in direct patient care areasRequests for time off must be made up front and are limited to seven or fewer days per contractDress code requires compliance with hospital and unit policiesRequirements
Active NE or compact RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedCurrent BLS certification is requiredMinimum of two years recent acute care Med / Surg experienceMust submit a copy of a valid driver’s license for address verificationRadius requirement : must live at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver’s licenseCannot have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past yearMust pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%Two references required : one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 yearsBenefits
