The Clinical Director provides leadership, oversight, and direction for all clinical operations within the Substance Abuse Clinic. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, and program effectiveness in the delivery of opioid treatment services, medication management, individual and group counseling, intensive outpatient groups (IOP), and outpatient groups. The Clinical Director works collaboratively with medical, clinical, and administrative staff to support a holistic, patient-centered approach to treatment.
Required Licensure : Current state licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent) .
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Supervision :
- Provide day-to-day clinical leadership, guidance, and supervision to counselors, nurses, and program staff.
- Oversee the clinical performance of all direct care providers, including adherence to evidence-based practices and ethical standards.
- Support professional development through training, performance evaluations, and ongoing mentorship.
Clinical Oversight :
Ensure quality and consistency in the delivery of treatment services including :Opioid treatment programs (OTP) and medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
Individual and group counseling.Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and outpatient services.Collaborate with the Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner, and nursing team to integrate medical and behavioral health care.Review and approve clinical documentation, treatment plans, and patient records for compliance and quality.Program Development & Compliance :
Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (SAMSHA, DEA, State Department of Health, CARF / Joint Commission if applicable).Develop, implement, and update policies and procedures to maintain accreditation and licensure standards.Analyze program effectiveness, patient outcomes, and implement improvements to enhance delivery service.Collaboration & Communication :
Serve as a liaison between the clinic and the corporate office, ensuring alignment with organizational policies.Coordinate with the Program Director, Program Manager, Intake Coordinator, and Front Desk Administrator to ensure smooth operations.Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including referral sources, community organizations, and regulatory agencies.Patient Care & Crisis Management :
Provide direct patient care as needed, including assessments, crisis intervention, and support in complex cases.Oversee clinical response to emergencies, critical incidents, and patient safety concerns.Ensure an environment of compassion, dignity, and respect for all patients.Qualifications :
Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field (Doctorate preferred).Current state licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent).Minimum of 5 years of clinical leadership experience in substance abuse treatment behavioral health, or related healthcare field.Strong knowledge of opioid treatment, MAT protocols, and co-occurring disorder treatment models.Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and foster collaboration across roles.Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.Reports To :
Program Director and / or Executive Leadership (Corporate Office).Direct Reports :
Counselors, Intake Coordinator, and other assigned clinical staff.
