About the Role :

MedSTAR Transport within MedStar Health is actively seeking Emergency Vehicle Operators and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to join our dedicated team in providing essential medical care during interfacility ambulance transport. In this role, you will perform critical medical procedures under the supervision of a transport paramedic, transport nurse, or established protocol, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Sign-On Bonus :

New, full-time Emergency Vehicle Operator positions are eligible for a total sign-on bonus of $8,000, to be paid out as follows, with an 18-month commitment :

$3,000 upon successful completion of orientation / probation

$2,500 after 12 months

$2,500 after 18 months

Key Responsibilities :

• Safely operates ground ambulances in compliance with all driving laws.
• Conducts thorough inspections of the assigned ambulance at the beginning of each shift to ensure readiness and safety.
• Participates actively in the program’s safety management system and provides feedback for safety initiatives.
• Contributes to departmental goals and follows policies, procedures, and quality standards while adhering to regulations.
• Ensures cleanliness and appropriate levels of supplies in transport vehicles.
• Maintains professional radio communications with MedSTAR and other agencies, following FCC protocols.
• Initiates departmental standing orders for appropriate patients and performs basic airway techniques, including oxygen therapy and bag-mask ventilation as per protocols during emergencies.
• Fosters a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families, implementing comfort measures when needed and striving to improve the overall care environment.
• Engages in MedSTAR Transport’s safety program and represents the department in community outreach efforts.
Qualifications :
• Education :

High School Diploma or GED required

Completion of an approved EMT course required

Successful completion of an emergency vehicle driving course required prior to release from orientation.

1-2 years of EMT experience preferred.

NREMT - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) is required.

EMT certification in the District of Columbia required within 30 days.

EMT certification in Maryland is required.
