The nurse provides healthcare to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing. Essential functions include providing and facilitating competent healthcare of patients and families in the area of practice. The nurse ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice. Documentation of care must be complete and accurate. Health and wellness education is provided to individuals and groups. The nurse acts as a preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students. Leadership is provided for initiatives designed to improve the quality of care or clinical outcomes. The nurse assists in the development of departmental standing orders.
