Staff Accountant

Job Responsibilities and Duties :
The Staff Accountant is responsible for areas of the internal / external financial reporting process, ensuring timely and accurate completion and compliance with GAAP and IFRS and applicable regulatory reporting. The successful candidate will provide financial operating results to multiple levels of management ensuring accuracy and timeliness of the information. The Staff Accountant also maintains and monitors the daily activities / transactions associated with segments of the Company as well as prepares and assists in the financial close process.
The Staff Accountant's primary job duties are :
- Generate, review, record and post general journal entries to the Company's financial books and records
- Prepare monthly depreciation and depletion entries, as well as annual capital processes
- Ongoing coordination with operation teams to determine what costs in Construction in Process (CIP) should be cleared to service, and execute monthly clearings to create individual fixed assets within JDE (accounting system)
- Record fixed asset disposals in JDE received from operations personnel
- Prepare timely account reconciliations, including fixed asset reconciliations, to ensure accuracy of financial reporting
- Adhere to the financial close process / deadlines in conjunction with reporting timelines
- Review Authorization for Expenditures (AFEs) to annual budget, as well as capitalization policies
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Assist with periodic review of accounting policies, procedures and workflow practices and assist with periodic program review
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, including capital budgeting
- Take ownership of segment accounting processes for internal control and reporting purposes
- Provide detailed reports and / or analysis to management as requested, including AFE overruns
- Provide support for management to understand costs and capital expenditure
- Assist with the Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program by ensuring internal control procedures are designed properly and working effectively and documentation is kept up-to-date
- Cross-train with other accounting / finance personnel to ensure adequate department coverage at all times
- Other duties and projects as assigned by immediate supervisor and / or management
