Highway & Roads Market Sector Director
Primary Responsibilities
Market Sector Directors (MSD) are part of HDR's matrix management structure that drive our business. The HDR Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is the largest, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients that own and operate highways, toll roads, city, town, and local roads, and bridge structures. HDR provides services such as bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling.
This role requires understanding of H&R clients, their funding, revenue streams, and governmental structures at various levels. Responsibilities are divided into three areas :
The Director sets the vision for HDR’s growth strategies, supports local and regional initiatives, and maintains regular communication with leadership to implement strategic and operational plans. The sector has ongoing contracts with US state departments of transportation and is expanding internationally.
The Director supports business development, manages key client relationships, leads strategic pursuits, and promotes HDR’s services and brand. They also oversee staff growth, technical excellence, and operational performance, including profit and loss management, project delivery, and quality assurance.
