Job description

Position Summary :

The Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) oversees and manages all aspects of the rehabilitation department within a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF). This includes supervision of physical, occupational, and speech therapy services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care that meets regulatory standards and facility goals. The DOR serves as a clinical and administrative leader, guiding the therapy team to achieve optimal patient outcomes, program efficiency, and compliance with all federal, state, and company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Clinical Leadership & Oversight

Direct and coordinate all rehabilitation programs (PT, OT, SLP) in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.

Ensure individualized treatment plans and discharge goals are developed and implemented for all patients.

Monitor clinical quality, documentation accuracy, and patient progress to achieve the highest standards of care.

Provide clinical guidance and mentoring to therapy staff.

Staff Management

Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate therapy staff, including therapists and therapy assistants.

Foster a positive and collaborative interdisciplinary team environment.

Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews.

Ensure appropriate staffing levels to meet patient care needs.

Compliance & Documentation

Ensure all therapy services are delivered in compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, state, and federal regulations.

Monitor and audit therapy documentation for accuracy, timeliness, and reimbursement compliance.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing, documentation, and regulatory requirements.

Financial & Operational Management

Manage departmental budgets, productivity standards, and resource utilization.

Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as case mix, RUG / PDPM utilization, and therapy outcomes.

Collaborate with facility leadership to optimize census, referrals, and revenue performance.

Communication & Collaboration

Serve as a liaison between the rehab department, nursing staff, physicians, residents, families, and external partners.

Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and care planning conferences.

Promote customer satisfaction and a culture of excellence.

Program Development

Develop and implement new therapy programs and initiatives to enhance patient care and facility reputation.

Support staff development through continuing education and competency training.

Qualifications :

Education : Graduate of an accredited program in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology.

Licensure : Current, valid state license in discipline (PT, OT, or SLP).

Experience :

Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting.

At least 1 year in a supervisory or management role preferred.

Skills :

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of PDPM, Medicare regulations, and NetHealth

Excellent organizational and communication abilities.

Working Conditions :

Work performed primarily in a healthcare facility setting.

May involve lifting, transferring, and assisting residents as needed.

Requires flexibility to meet patient and operational needs.
