Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Med / Surg Oncology RN with active OH or Compact license and strong med / surg experience for night shifts.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital-based Medical Surgical Oncology unitProvides care for patients with hematologic malignancies and other cancers, including lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and leukemiasCare for patients with sickle cell disease and benign hematology conditionsStaffing ratio goal is 1 : 4, but may be up to 1 : 5Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin and heparin drips, and management of oncologic emergenciesNight shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19 : 00-7 : 30); day / night rotation may be possibleSelf-scheduling with requests submitted prior to schedule finalizationFloating required to other Med / Surg and Oncology unitsUtilizes Epic EMR for documentation; Epic experience preferredFirst week orientation is Monday-Friday on days, followed by 36 hours on-unit with a preceptorFocus on infection prevention protocols and patient fallsNo blocked or set scheduling; unit does not offer fixed schedulesWeekend shifts are variable based on unit needsFirst-time travelers acceptedLocals accepted at the same rate as travelersFormer employees eligible if separated from the facility for 6 months or moreCurrent employees at Ohio State University hospitals are ineligible for traveler rolesRTO (time off) must be submitted at time of application and built into contractAll candidates must promptly complete OH fingerprinting as part of credentialingScrub color or dress code details not specifiedRequirements
Active OH or Compact RN license in hand at time of considerationBLS and ACLS certifications requiredDegree must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing programAt least one year of recent Med / Surg RN experience requiredHematology / Oncology experience preferred but not requiredExperience with telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation, and rapid response teams requiredCompetency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, and PICC managementAbility to manage feeding tubes, start IVs, and utilize telemetry equipmentEPIC charting experience preferredTwo professional references required, with at least one from a manager / director or supervisorBenefits
