Police Officer
The Police Officers of the Champlin Police Department hold various ranks and are assigned to various positions, but all are first and foremost general Police Officers. All must be able to perform the essential functions of a Police Officer. All must meet and maintain the required qualifications, and all must be able to perform the physical demands listed in this section. The ability of the department to perform its mission is directly related to the abilities of those individuals who function as Police Officers. Opportunities for job assignments include, but are not limited to : Patrol Officer, General Investigator, Drug Task Force Detective, School Resource Officer, Traffic Enforcement Officer, Field Training, Defensive Tactics Training, Firearms Instructor, Drone Operator, Mobile Field Force, Weapons of Mass Destruction Team, Bike Patrol, Community Outreach Specialist, and more. Officers have the opportunity to work out while on-duty (staffing dependent), excellent health and dental insurance packages, officer wellness program, 10- and 12-hour patrol shift options (staffing dependent) and so much more. Minimum educational requirement by the date of appointment : Associates degree and have completed the law enforcement skills course. Police Officer Salary : Hourly : $38.72 - $52.61 Annually : $80,537.60 - $109,428.80

The City of Champlin offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for full-time and part-time positions. Individual benefits may vary slightly depending on the specific position, full or part-time status or union contract. Retirement : All public employees are currently mandated by the State to participate in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). 11.8% of the employee's gross wage or salary is matched with a 17.7% contribution from the City. PERA plus Social Security benefits make up the coordinated retirement program. City offers deferred compensation (457) retirements plans through Mission Square and MN Deferred Compensation Plan. City did not contribute to these plans. Medical Benefits : Coverage is provided by Medica through a High Deductible Health Care with an HSA. For full-time employees the City will cover the cost of the single coverage premium per month. Part-time employees may receive pro-rated coverage. Depending on the medical plan election, the City may contribute to the HSA plan. There is an option to opt-out if covered under another qualifying plan. Dental Benefits : Coverage through Delta Dental. For full-time employees the City will cover the cost of the single coverage premium per month. Part-time employees may receive pro-rated coverage. There is an option to opt-out if covered under another qualifying plan. Vision Benefits : Coverage through EyeMed. For regular full-time employees will offer an employee paid vision plan. Paid Vacation : Paid vacation is available to all regular full-time employees and is accrued at the following rates : Years of Service Vacation Leave Earned 0 to 5 years 80 hours 6 to 10 years 120 hours 11+ years An additional 8 hours per year, not to exceed 200 hours per year. Paid Sick Leave : Employees can earn a total of 96 sick leave hours per year. 12 to 12 1 / 2 Paid Holidays : All regular full-time employees of the City, except those who are governed by a union contract or different holiday policy, receive twelve to twelve and half (12 to 12 1 / 2) paid specific holidays : New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples' Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day, Post-Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve (close at noon)
