Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to provide evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions. They are licensed independent practitioners and credentialed as direct care providers in specific military Human Performance (HP) settings. As such, shall evaluate and treat patients with or without referrals. The PT will also refer patients to other HPO staff members as needed.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Provide musculoskeletal injury care, utilizing approved supplemental clinical privileges including the ordering of imaging studies, laboratory tests, basic pharmaceuticals, joint injections, and referrals to specialty providers, with consistent, appropriate, and required documentation.
  • Utilizes screening information to develop rehabilitation protocol and interventions if needed.
  • Assist in the development of the unit's rehabilitation system in accordance with all local, state, and national laws and regulations, as well as licensing and insurance certification. Reviews and evaluates physician's referrals and patients' records to determine physical therapy treatment requirements.
  • Performs patient tests, measurements and evaluations and record findings to aid in developing and / or revising specifics of the treatment program or training program.
  • Participate in periodic meetings with HPO staff for reasons such as, but not limited to, reviewing care provided to patients. Identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Shall have a minimum of five years of experience working with elite level athletes within the SOF / RQS community, NCAA, or professional sporting ranks.

  • Required Qualifications and Education

  • Master's degree (Doctorate degree preferred) in physical therapy from a credentialed college or university and a valid state physical therapy license with board certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) as either an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist or Sports Clinical Specialist (OCS or SCS)
  • Additional credentials as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or as a Sports Performance Coach through the United States of America Weightlifting Association (USAWA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years or more of demonstrable, accumulated post-professional experience of performing manual therapy in the sports medicine field with individual athletes and groups of athletes (experience at the levels of NCAA Division I, Olympic, professional, and / or Special Operations / AFSPECWAR Operators preferred) in the accompanying, respective settings. Internship hours / experience will not be considered professional experience.
  • Demonstrated history of performing manual therapy, trigger point dry needling, Graston Technique soft tissue mobilization and functional taping.
  • Required to receive and maintain clinical practice privileges. Those personnel providing PT services shall maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification to be credentialed. Previous experience working with Tricare medical system is highly preferred.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Maintain capability of meeting physical demands of training with Special Operation Forces (SOF) including the ability to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments to observe SOF training evolutions, the ability to assist with strength and conditioning testing and training protocols, and the ability to lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 20 kilograms.
