Overview

Fox TV Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations in 14 of the top 15 DMAs and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. The stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week and distribute sports, entertainment and syndicated content to audiences.

Job Description

WTTG / WDCA – Director of News and Content (Regular Full-Time)

FOX 5 DC / FOX 5 Plus, a leader in the Washington, D.C. market, is seeking a driven and innovative Director of News and Content to join the senior leadership team. This role is the creative and strategic force behind the newsroom, guiding content across all platforms to connect with and captivate audiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead Strategic Content : Drive the strategic vision and provide hands-on leadership for a 24 / 7 live newsroom. Direct all aspects of content creation and production on broadcast, digital, and social media platforms, including FOX Local and YouTube channels.
  • Innovate and Inspire : Design and implement innovative show formats and content strategies for all program blocks—morning to evening, sports to politics.
  • Branding and Consumer Insights : Safeguard and strengthen the brand across all platforms. Use analytics to understand consumer preferences and trends.
  • Cultivate a Winning Team : Lead, mentor, and develop the news team. Manage recruiting, training, performance evaluations, and oversight to foster a high-performing, collaborative culture.
  • Forge Relationships : Partner with the VP of News / Content to drive audience growth. Serve as the primary liaison with Fox News Channel and other Fox entities.
  • Operational Excellence : Collaborate with the legal team on coverage issues and coordinate with helicopter partners to ensure top-tier reporting.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience : Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role in a large television market, with progressive responsibility. Minimum of 10 years in a newsroom / media environment.
  • Seasoned Leader : Proven success in a senior newsroom leadership role, able to manage and inspire large teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • Creative Visionary : History of creating compelling, innovative content and show formats that resonate with a wide audience.
  • Multi-Platform Expert : Strong ability to produce and distribute news for television, social media, and digital platforms.
  • Adaptability : Thrives in high-pressure, fast-paced news environments.

  • Additional Details

    FOX 5 DC / FOX 5 Plus is a 24 / 7 operation. This role requires flexibility to work varied hours including overtime, early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays, and in the case of breaking news. Travel may be required and a clean motor vehicle record is expected.

    Pay range : $150,000.00 - 220,000.00 annually, with final offer based on education, skills, experience, and location. Benefits include medical / dental / vision, insurance, 401(k), paid time off, and other plan-based benefits. Benefits for union-represented employees are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
