GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Engineer Manager 1 to fill the role of Underground Transmission Line Engineering Manager. This position will report to the Division Leader of Transmission and Distribution Lines in our Power Delivery Engineering Business Sector in GAI's Power Business Unit. The ideal candidate's duties will consist of underground electric transmission line design, overall project management, client interaction, proposal preparation, technical guidance / training of staff, design reviews, scheduling, staffing, invoicing, budget control, QA / QC enforcement, and business development related to all aspects of electrical transmission design services. This position will be performed remotely but connected to a GAI office.
Responsibilities
- Partner with program managers and / or project managers to plan, direct, and monitor project teams executing all technical underground line engineering aspects of projects within a program or for multiple clients.
- Lead, support, and / or oversee the development and implementation of project execution plans and quality plans for programs or clients, including performing regular audits with action items for additional training as needed.
- Ensure project teams have access to client and program technical standards and preferences and that project teams are adequately informed and trained on implementation of those standards.
- Coordinate with program and project managers to advise and support clients on technical matters.
- Monitor technical resources assigned to programs or projects and workload forecasts and coordinate with operations leadership in multiple offices to address staffing concerns.
- Support the coordination and interface of Engineering Managers with other technical discipline leads on projects.
- Mentor, train, and support Engineering Managers in multiple offices on the technical aspects of underground transmission design, including proposal development, progress assessment, risk assessment / mitigation, and change, quality, and schedule management.
- Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
- Assist with developing technical papers and / or presentations that showcase GAI's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
- Lead hiring and growth strategy for GAI in regard to underground and submarine line design.
- Participates in project reviews as needed.
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum of 12 years of related experience, or less experience with an advanced degree, including at least 2 years of supervisory and / or project management experience.Preferred 12+ years of technical underground and submarine cable design experience up to 500 kV, including routing, environmental permitting, material procurement, cable materials, specifications, and construction support.Familiarity with trenchless technologies such as horizontal directional drilling and microtunneling.Proficient with CDEGS, CYMCAP and other underground design software.Effective communication with clients, management, peers, and subordinates; strong verbal and written communication and organization skills.Subject matter expert with in-depth understanding of underground electric transmission line design and engineering concepts.Demonstrates project management expertise in developing project schedules, cost budgets, and financial data analysis.Mastery of intermediate to advanced project management financial concepts, including pricing, cost budget monitoring, and calculating profit.Proficiency with software such as PLS-CADD, Microsoft Office Suite, CAD programs, document management systems, database software, HR systems, internet software, and reporting tools related to databases and client-specific software.Professional Engineer (P.E.) license; reciprocity in multiple states.Education : B.S. or M.S. in Engineering or related field.Licenses and Certifications
