The New Mexico VA Health Care System and the University of New Mexico (UNM) Cancer Center are seeking applications for the position of staff physician in an expanding Section of Hematology / Oncology at the NMVAHCS. The NMVAHCS Hematology / Oncology program is the major academic affiliate of the UNM Division of Hematology / Oncology and the UNM Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This individual will also collaborate closely with the Divisional and Cancer Center Leadership at UNM. The Staff Physician, Section of Hematology / Oncology will have a major teaching role within the Division including its fellowship program. Qualified applicants will have an MD, current medical license and be board-certified or eligible in Hematology and / or Oncology.

The ideal candidate will be suitable for academic appointment at UNM at the level of associate or full professor, as evidenced by a strong track record of academic and clinical excellence. Qualified candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico based upon qualifications and experience.

Major responsibilities and duties of the position include but are not limited to :

• Direct, high quality patient care with particular emphasis on the ability to function in a multidisciplinary team
• Diagnostic workup, treatment and follow-up of patients with blood disorders or malignancies

Participation in educational programs of Hematology / Oncology and Internal Medicine. Participation in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.

Preferred Criteria / Experience :

Pay :   Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off :   50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement :   Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance :    Federal health / vision / dental / term life / long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure :   1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME :   Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract :   No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule :    Monday through Friday, 8 : 00am to 4 : 30pm
